45°C heat index logged in Borongan, E. Samar on Wednesday, May 6

MANILA, Philippines — Heat indices recorded across the country peaked at 45ºC in Borongan, Eastern Samar on Wednesday, May 6, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Heat index refers to the heat the human body feels when air temperature and humidity are combined. 

Pagasa automatically tags the index as “danger” level once it ranges between 42ºC and 51ºC amid increased risks of heat cramps and heat exhaustion, which could then lead to heat stroke.

Apart from Borongan, the other areas which recorded danger-level heat indices across the country on Wednesday are as follows:

• Laoag City, Ilocos Norte – 42ºC
• Dagupan City, Pangasinan – 42ºC
• ISU Echague, Isabela – 42ºC
• CLSU-Muñoz, Nueva Ecija – 42ºC
• Cubi Pt., Subic Bay Olongapo City – 42ºC
• TAU Camiling, Tarlac – 42ºC
• Sangley Point, Cavite City, Cavite – 42ºC
• San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 43ºC
• Cuyo, Palawan – 42ºC
• Virac (Synop), Catanduanes – 44ºC
• Catarman, Northern Samar – 43ºC /das
