Senate ethics panel awaiting Dela Rosa’s comment on ‘no work, no pay’

MANILA, Philippines – The Senate ethics panel has asked Sen. Bato dela Rosa to comment on the possibility of including a ‘no work, no pay’ rule in the Senate, Sen. JV Ejercito said on Monday.
“There is a proposal to amend the rules of the Senate already on absenteeism. The committee already acted on it by asking Senator Dela Rosa to comment regarding the proposal to amend the rules,” Ejercito said.
He reasoned that Dela Rosa was asked in the first place, as the amendment “concerns the complaint against him.”

Senate President Vicente Sotto III, earlier said he will suggest that Dela Rosa be asked for an explanation “to show cause why we should not follow or give in to the complaint.”
Dela Rosa is facing an ethics complaint due to his absence since November 2025.
He stopped attending the Senate after reports of an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court came to light. /gsg
