TACLOBAN CITY — Damage was reported in several parts of Eastern Visayas after a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck off San Julian, Eastern Samar, on Monday.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has downgraded the magnitude of the quake from 6.1 to 6.0.

In San Julian, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office immediately conducted rapid assessments near the epicenter to determine possible structural damage.

In Oras town, a crucifix at the altar of San Pedro Calungsod Quasi-Parish in Barangay San Eduardo was damaged during the strong shaking at around 2:09 p.m., according to church officials and residents.

In Tacloban City, some students at Eastern Visayas State University reportedly fainted during the tremor and were given immediate assistance, as patients and companions in some health facilities were briefly moved outdoors as a precaution.

A house made of light materials in Barangay Cantungtong, Jiabong, Samar, was also damaged following the quake.
