Cop shot while serving arrest warrant in Quirino

CABARROGUIS, Quirino — A police officer was shot by a man while he and his colleagues were serving an arrest warrant against the suspect in Disimungal, Nagtipunan, Quirino, on Saturday night, May 2, police said Sunday.
Injured was Patrolman Jimboy Erang, who was hit by an improvised pellet gun.
Erang was given first aid at the Disimungal village hall and later brought to the Maddela District Hospital in Diduyon, Maddela.
He was later transferred to the Southern Isabela Medical Center (SIMC) in Santiago City for treatment and surgery.
Erang and his colleagues were serving an arrest warrant against Marvin Gumabon for violation of “other light threats” under Article 285 of the Revised Penal Code when they were shot at by the latter in his house in Sitio Masug in Disimungal, Nagtipunan town.

Erang was personally visited at the hospital by Police Brig. Gen. Mariano Rodriguez, newly installed regional police director in Cagayan Valley. He lauded the bravery of the policeman in performing his duty with courage, dedication, and professionalism.
In a hot pursuit operation on May 3 at 6:30 a.m., Gumabon was arrested in his safehouse in Sitio Sangbay.
He allegedly shot police officers, who retaliated and hit him on his left chest. He was brought to the Maddela District Hospital for treatment. /mcm
