MANILA, Philippines—Serious flooding is expected in Metro Manila early Tuesday due to heavy rains, the state-run weather bureau said.

In an advisory posted on Twitter at 3:15 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said that a 64 mm rainfall was observed at Port Area, Manila for the past four hours and most likely to continue for the next hour.

It said that flooding was threatening in low-lying areas and those located near the river channels.

It also said that a 56.8mm rainfall was observed at Sangley, Cavite for the past four hours.

“A prevailing low pressure area is expected to bring scattered to widespread rains over southern Luzon including National Capital Region,” Pagasa said.

It advised residents living in low lying areas and along mountain slopes to be alert for possible occurrence of flashfloods and landslides.
