Boy with rare disease needs help

Now aged 7, Railene Luis Labay has been suffering from Langerhans’ cell histiocytosis since he was just three years old. A rare disorder of the bone, the disease has been eating away at the tissues and cells in the boy’s skull. It has also affected his sense of hearing.

Railene’s mother, Elena, told the Inquirer that as a result, her son has difficulty communicating with her and his father, Jose, a worker at a printing press in Mandaluyong City.

The family’s immediate concern, however, is for Railene to undergo chemotherapy. “The disease has already spread to his ribs,”  Elena said.

His doctor has recommended that the boy undergo chemotherapy for 54 weeks at the cost of P3,000 a week. The family, however, can barely afford this on Jose’s earnings.

Those who want to help Railene can reach Elena at 0926-4201241. Donations can be coursed through Jose Labay’s BPI Family Savings Bank account with account number 6206452372.
