More than 3,000 jobs offered in Labor Day fair in Cagayan Valley

TUGUEGARAO CITY, CAGAYAN, Philippines — For thousands of jobseekers, May 1 was spent applying for jobs instead of resting as they queued in long lines at Labor Day job fairs at two private malls in this city and in Santiago City, Isabela.
Department of Labor and Employment Regional Director Elpidio Jesus Atal Jr. lauded jobseekers for taking their chances with either the private sector or in the civil service.
About 5,000 local and 1,000 overseas job vacancies were offered in the said venues.
Some of the applicants were hired on the spot.

Young applicants also sought contractual works under the Government Internship Program (GIP) Fair, part of the 124th Labor Day event. Fifteen government agencies with 100 slots were allotted for young job seekers who would like to have a startup job in the government.
Various agencies also put up help and registration desks such as the PhilHealth, Social Security System, Philippine Statistics Authority and others.
In Isabela, 42 employer-companies offered 1,947 jobs to applicants.
In Quirino province, at least 1,000 disadvantaged workers each received P7,500 as their stipends under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program of the government. In this city, at least 300 TUPAD beneficiaries received their stipends on Friday.
Regionwide, nooks were also allotted for “affordable” vegetables and other local products of farmers, farmers’ associations, small traders, and small- and medium-sized enterprises in Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Batanes, Isabela, and Cagayan. /cb
