HEAT INDEX ALERT: 11 areas in ‘danger’ level on Labor Day

MANILA, Philippines — At least 11 areas are forecast to record “danger” level heat indices on Labor Day, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Pagasa defines heat index as the heat felt by the human body when air temperature and humidity are combined.
“Danger” level heat indices range between 42ºC and 51ºC and bring increased risks of heat cramps and heat exhaustion, which could then lead to heat stroke.

Based on Pagasa’s forecast as of 5 p.m. of Thursday, April 30, Dagupan City in Pangasinan is expected to reach the highest head index at 43ºC.
Meanwhile, Sangley Point in Cavite City, which is expected to reach 42ºC, will mark its ninth consecutive day of hitting “danger” level heat indices since April 23.
Meanwhile, below are the other areas expected to hit danger level heat indices on Friday or during the commemoration of Labor Day:
- Bacnotan, La Union – 42ºC
- Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – 42ºC
- Iba, Zambales – 42ºC
- CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija – 42ºC
- Cubi Pt., Subic Bay Olongapo City – 42ºC
- Coron, Palawan – 42ºC
- San Jose, Occidental Mindoro – 42ºC
- Iloilo City, Iloilo – 42ºC
- Dumangas, Iloilo – 42ºC
