Itogon reopens trekking sites on May 1

ITOGON, BENGUET, Philippines — Mayor Bernard Waclin has lifted the suspension on trekking and other outdoor activities in this town’s eco-tourism sites, with operations set to resume on Friday, May 1.
In Executive Order No. 23, Waclin announced the reopening of popular destinations, including Mt. Ulap, Mt. Ugo, Mt. Pigingan, Mt. Bidawan, Mt. Cotcot, and Ave Maria.
The sites were temporarily closed on April 20 following a series of forest fires in the area.

Waclin issued the order after local authorities verified that the fires had been fully contained. Safety teams have completed assessments and confirmed that the trails are now clear and safe for public use.
Despite the reopening, all activities remain subject to existing local regulations and continuous safety monitoring by municipal personnel. Local officials said strict fire prevention measures and regular site inspections will continue.
The municipal government said the measures aim to protect the environment while ensuring the safety of both trekkers and residents. /cb
