BACOLOD CITY, NEGROS, OCCIDENTAL, Philippines — Police and military authorities tagged five persons who were recently in Talisay City, Negros Occidental as New People’s Army (NPA) rebels who were involved in the armed encounter with soldiers in Toboso town last Sunday.

Combined forces of the Army and various police units served a warrant against Glenmar Bacusmo in Barangay Matab-ang, Talisay City on Wednesday evening.

In the process, the authorities stumbled upon four other individuals who were allegedly in possession of firearms and explosives, the Negros Island Region police office said.

The five, now under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, are identified as Glenmar Bacusmo, 48, of Purok Golden Shower, Barangay Poblacion Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, and squad leader of the North Negros Front (NNF); Danny Boy Baguio, 25, of Sitio Bulason in Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City, and squad leader of Central Negros 2 (CN2); Judy Caramihan, 34, of Sitio Buli, Barangay Bagonbon, San Carlos City; Julie Ann Balora, 26, of Barangay Sta. Rosa, Murcia, Negros Occidental; and Jerome Seballos, 57, of Barangay Bata, Bacolod City.

Bacusmo and Caramihan were injured, a police source told the Inquirer.

Caramihan had shrapnel wounds on the back, and Bacusmo had a gunshot wound on the lower portion of his nape, and will be referred for hospital confinement, the source added.

The regional police said the group was involved in Sunday’s encounter in Toboso, a declaration shared by Brig. Gen. Ted Dumosmog, commander of the Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade.

Bacusmo is ranked second among the police’s Regional Most Wanted Persons for the crimes of theft, robbery, multiple frustrated murder, multiple murder, crimes against humanitarian law, genocide, and other crimes against humanity, and attempted murder, the regional police said.

Authorities recovered four .45-caliber pistols, live ammunition, and hand grenades from the group. /cb
