COTABATO CITY, Philippines — The military has launched a manhunt against a group of armed men who ambushed and killed a former town mayor in Sultan Kudarat province on Saturday.
Colonel Prudencio Asto, speaking for the military’s 6th Infantry Division, said the 601st Infantry Brigade based in Tacurong City has been helping the Isulan PNP in hunting down the killers of ex-mayor Sahid Salik.
Salik, who works as a consultant for Maguindanao Governor Esmael Toto Mangudadatu, was driving his car with his wife and children when they were waylaid by motorcycle-riding men along the national highway in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.
Reports reaching the 6th ID said Salik, a member of the Moro National Liberation Front, was ambushed at about 5 p.m. near the warehouse of the National Food Authority. He was heading toward Maguindanao province.
Salik was declared dead on arrival at the hospital while his wife and children were treated of their injuries.
