Toddler drowns in a bucket of water

A TWO-YEAR-OLD boy accidentally drowned in a pail of water in his grandmother’s house in barangay Upper Tayud, Consolacion town, northern Cebu.

Lee Angelo Coritana was found by his grandmother submerged head first.

The boy was the youngest son of PO1 Joel Coritana and Mayflor.

Lee Angelo and his three siblings were left in the care of their grandmother, Lourdes Judaya, while their parents were at work. Mayflor is an employee of MEPZ while PO1 Coritana is a field training policeman in Moalboal town.

Barangay tanod  Diosdado Nonongan Jr. said he ran to the house when he heard the  grandmother shouting  for help past 9 a.m. on Friday.

The boy was submerged in a pail of water. The body was already bloated.

The boy was rushed to the Eversley Child Sanitarium Hospital in Mandaue City but it was too late.

The grandmother didn’t notice that the child had gone  to the bathroom bringing with him a towel.

Nonongan said it was possible that the towel fell in  the bucket and the child lost his balance while reaching for it.

It was the second case of a toddler drowning in a bucket in Cebu this year.

Last February 12, one-year-old Jamaica Ombog drowned in a pail of water in the bathroom of a relative’s house in Carcar City, southern Cebu ./CORRESPONDENT FE MARIE D. DUMABOC
