Fire guts school facilities in Leyte high school

TACLOBAN CITY — A fire tore through a public high school in Palompon, Leyte, on Sunday morning, destroying classrooms and valuable learning equipment and disrupting school operations.
The blaze erupted at 10:45 a.m. at San Guillermo National High School in Barangay San Guillermo, affecting several structures, including a computer laboratory, classrooms, office buildings, a makeshift library, and the Supreme Student Government (SSG) office.
Initial findings from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), based on accounts from school personnel, showed that numerous school assets were either destroyed or damaged.
Among these were 50 laptops issued by the Department of Education, 30 tablets, 30 PC tablets, 20 printers, television units, charging carts, and various math and science equipment, the total value of which has yet to be fully assessed.
Firefighters were able to place the blaze under control at around 4:18 p.m., according to SFO1 Stephen John Sabillo, an investigator from the BFP in Palompon.

Authorities pegged the estimated damage at around P850,000. No injuries or casualties were reported.
