‘Keep right except to overtake’ rule tops Bataan traffic violations’ list

BALANGA CITY, Bataan — “Keep right except to overtake” has emerged as the most frequently violated traffic rule in Bataan province, according to the Metro Bataan Development Authority (MBDA).
In its three-month report for 2026, the MBDA recorded 1,998 traffic violations, with the “Keep right except to overtake” rule accounting for the majority of cases.
The agency said this violation is a leading factor in serious road accidents along the Roman Superhighway, which connects Mariveles and passes through eight towns.
This wrongdoing was followed by violations involving defective tail lights, missing side mirrors and lack of helmet among motorcyclists.
Authorities said these violations significantly affect commuter safety.
Some motorists, meanwhile, stressed the need for greater public education on basic traffic rules and regulations to prevent drivers from unnecessarily occupying the passing lanes.
MBDA personnel, who regularly patrol the length of the Roman Highway, urged motorists to be responsible to prevent accidents. /apl
