MANILA, Philippines—A policeman who was just sitting in front of his house was stabbed and shot dead by a known neighborhood toughie in Quezon City on Friday afternoon.

The victim was Senior Police Officer 1 Harry de Ocampo, 46, who was assigned to the Quezon City Police District’s Headquarters Support Unit.

The law enforcer died right in front of his house on 1218 Gana Compound on  Edsa in Barangay Unang Sigaw, Balintawak at around 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Case investigator SPO1 Randy Bantillo said the victim died immediately from several stab wounds and a gunshot wound in the chest from his own gun.

The alleged killer was identified was Philip Carpio, 37, of 1184 Gana Compound.

Carpio is under police custody as he is confined at the Quezon City General Hospital for a shallow stab wound in the chest that he sustained during a scuffle with the victim.

Bantollo said the suspect is a known neighborhood toughie whose father is a former barangay captain.

The victim’s family and other residents claimed not to know of any reason why Carpio would kill the victim except that he was known to pick a fight with the policeman whenever Carpio was drunk.

On Friday afternoon, the policeman was just sitting on a bench in front of his home when the suspect suddenly lunged at the policeman and stabbed him.

De Ocampo was able to pull out his gun and fire but missed his target, enabling his opponent to grab the gun and shoot the policeman.

The two men struggled for the weapons during which Carpio got stabbed as well.

Barangay watchmen chased the suspect and brought him to the hospital.
