MANILA, Philippines — Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island emitted ash on Thursday, producing a grayish plume above its summit crater, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

“The event generated a grayish plume that rose 1,200 meters above the summit crater,” Phivolcs said in a post.

The event was captured in time-lapse footage recorded by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory in Canlaon City from 6:24 a.m. to 6:29 a.m.

Meanwhile, a voluminous plume measuring about 400 meters high was also observed drifting southwest, while ground deformation data indicated that the volcano’s edifice remains inflated.

In its advisory, Phivolcs said, “Alert Level 2 prevails over Kanlaon Volcano.”
