‘Danger’ heat index seen in 2 areas Wednesday – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Two areas are forecast to reach “danger” level heat indices on Wednesday, April 8, said the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) defines heat index as the “measure of the contribution that high humidity makes with abnormally high temperatures in reducing the body’s ability to cool itself.”

Indices ranging from 42ºC to 51ºC are tagged “danger,” due to increased risks of heat cramps and heat exhaustion, which could then lead to heat stroke.

According to Pagasa’s forecast as of 5 p.m. of April 7, both Cotabato City, Maguindanao and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte are expected to hit danger level heat indices of 42ºC.

While only these two areas are projected to hit danger-level indices, the following areas are still forecast to reach indices categorized “extreme caution” or those ranging from 33ºC to 41ºC:
