Some P50,000 in cash await the winners of the second “Sonshine Radio Run” on July 22 starting at the Terraces in Ayala Center Cebu.
The inaugural 21-kilometer half marathon will highlight the second edition of DYAR 765’s running event which also include the 12k, 6k and 3k distances.
The race is a fund raising event for Sonshine Radio’s charity program called “Operation Sonshine” which covers feeding, implementing environmental projects and aiding depressed barangays in Cebu City.
Cebuano elite runners also have a greater chance to win the 21k race after organizers headed by Sonshine Radio OIC William Valencia decided to put a separate category for foreign runners. Foreigners will only be allowed to join the non-competitive side of the 21k run.
“I have seen the sacrifices and determination of our local runners to win, some of them are athletes, scholars, students and some of them make running as their primary source of income so we decided to give them a chance to win,” said Valencia during yesterday’s official launching at the Jollibee Raintree Mall branch where he was joined by race director Joel Baring, Pocari Sweat’s William Lim and sponsors Delp Doolani of Capriole electronics and Barbie Romeo of Andy Hotel.
Last year, the run drew 2,000 runners but this year, organizers are hoping to gather 3,000 racers with the inclusion of the 21k event.
Aside from the cash prizes, winners will also take home finishers medal and trophies.
Registration fee is pegged at P600 for 21k with singlet and P450 without singlet; P350 for the 12k category and P200 without singlet and P300 for the 6k and 3k and P200 without singlet.
Registration areas are located at RUNNR and at the Active Zone of Ayala Center Cebu, Toby’s Sports SM City Cebu, Wow Travel and More branches and at the Cebu City Sports Center. Deadline for registration is July 20.
