2.6-magnitude quake logged in Eastern Samar

TACLOBAN CITY — A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 struck off the coast of Eastern Samar on Monday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

In its earthquake bulletin issued at 8:23 a.m., Phivolcs said the tremor occurred at 8:17 a.m., with its epicenter located about 13 kilometers northeast of the municipality of Hernani.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin and had a shallow depth of 6 km.

Phivolcs reported no felt intensities from nearby areas and said no damage is expected from the weak tremor. The agency also indicated that aftershocks are not anticipated.

Eastern Samar lies along the Philippine Fault Zone, making it prone to frequent but often low-magnitude seismic activity. /coa
