MANILA, Philippines — Partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected to prevail in Metro Manila and the rest of the country on Sunday, the state weather bureau predicted.

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Veronica Torres said Luzon will have partly cloudy atmosphere.

She also reported that Visayas and Mindanao are expected to have cloudy skies with a chance of localized thunderstorms.

Torres also noted the ridge of a high-pressure area (HPA) over Northern and Central Luzon.

“The high-pressure area is associated with sinking air, so the areas affected by the ridge of the high-pressure area are less likely to have cloud development, and thunderstorm development becomes less likely,” she explained.

The HPA brings hot and humid weather.

Meanwhile, the heat index in Metro Manila may reach approximately 36°C to 37°C, which is under the “extreme caution” category.
