Deeper probe into Good Friday shooting in Puerto Princesa ordered

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan – A more thorough probe into the shooting incident on Good Friday in Puerto Princesa the resulted in the death of two police officers and a jail employee was ordered by Mimaropa regional police chief Brig. Gen. Jovencio Badua Jr.
Authorities are currently conducting a follow-up investigation on the incident in Zone 13, Barangay Irawan
The PPCPO has also created a Special Investigation Task Group to focus on the case.
Badua has also assured that the investigation will be conducted professionally, objectively and that due process will be observed.
“We will leave no stone unturned in this investigation. All efforts will be directed toward establishing the truth and ensuring that justice is served,” he said.
He likewise extended his condolences to the families of the victims and also urged the public to support the investigation and cooperate with authorities.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of our fallen personnel. We assure them that a thorough and impartial investigation is underway,” he said.
“We encourage the public to provide verified and relevant information that may aid in the investigation,” he added.
The PPCPO meanwhile condemned the incident, and assured the families of the victims that “all necessary measures are being undertaken to ensure that justice is served.”
Witnesses in the area who were attending a wake said a confrontation broke out between a police officer and an unidentified individual.
The police officer left and came back with backup that led to another altercationthe led to the fatal shooting of Police Staff Sergeants Ryan Cris Cabaña, and Jayson Fernandez who are both assigned at the Puerto Princesa City Police Station 2, and Jerson Ojario Talon of the BuCor. /gsg
