Abducted boy found

The one-year-old boy who was abducted in a downtown mall in Cebu City last Monday is back in his mother’s arms.

The boy was reunited with his mother Diane Simbajon, 21, of Ginatilan town, at the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) yesterday with no indication that he had come to harm.

Two unidentified women left the child at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral past 2 p.m. yesterday.

Who and why the child was taken remains a mystery. Simbajon reported the boy missing on Monday after her older sister mistakenly turned over the child to two women she thought were relatives at E-Mall on N. Bacalso Avenue while Simbajon was buying food.

Past 2 p.m. yesterday, two unidentified women left the toddler with a 13-year-old girl in the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, telling her they had to buy some milk for the baby and would come back in a while.

When they didn’t return, the girl brought the baby to the church’ security guards, who brought him to the Sto. Niño barangay hall across the church.

From there, the boy was turned over by barangay officials to the Waterfront police station.

The boy was later brought to the CCPO.

Although the boy was already found, an investigation will be made to try to identify the abductors, said under Chief Insp. Bonifacio Garciano, chief of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch of CCPO.
