Kanlaon Volcano emits ash anew

MANILA, Philippines – Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island emitted ash once again on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology (Phivolcs) said.

According to Phivolcs in an advisory, the ash emission event occurred at two separate times the same day, specifically at 12: 33 p.m. and 5:59 p.m.

“These events generated grayish plumes that have risen 100 to 500 meters above the summit crater before drifting southwest,” Phivolcs said.

The volcano emitted ash over a week after it last had a moderate eruption on March 15.

Alert Level 2 remains raised over Kanlaon Volcano with entry into its 4 kilometer Permanent Danger Zone continued to be prohibited.

Under Alert Level 2, sudden steam-driven (phreatic) eruptions and signs of impending magmatic activity are possible. /mr
