MANILA, Philippines – Several roads and bridges have become impassable as Tropical Storm “Dindo” (International name: Doksuri) moved closer to the country Thursday.
The Baguio-Bontoc road and the Kabuyan-Buguias-Abayan road in the Cordillera Administrative Region have been closed due to landslides obstructing the road, the National Disaster, Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday.
Strong rains have caused a seawall to collapse along the Narvacan-Sulvec Road in Ilocos Sur rendering it impassable while the San Emilio-Quirino road in the same province has become too muddy for vehicles to pass, NDRRMC said.
The Buagao Bridge along the Manila North Road, of Bangi, Ilocos Norte, has become impassable due to high water levels. The Gasgas Bridge in the same province has weakened and could only accommodate one vehicle at a time, NDRRMC said.
The Bagunot Overflow Bridge and Abusag Overflow Bridge in the Municipality of Baggao, and Tawi Overflow Bridge in Penablanca, Cagayan, were impassable due to heavy rains, NDRRMC said.
Tropical storm Dindo has been spotted 140 kilometers north northeast of Aparri, Cagayan, as of 4 p.m., according to the latest report of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Dindo’s strength has maintained at 75 kilometers per hour with gustiness of up to 90 kilometers per hour.
Its speed and direction has also remained unchanged at 19 kilometers per hour west northwest.
Storm Signal No. 2 remains in the provinces of Cagayan, Calayan Group of Islands, Babuyan Group of Islands, Batanes Group of Islands, Apayao, Ilocos Norte.
Signal No. 1 has also been raised in Abra, Kalinga, Isabela, Ilocos Sur, Mountain Province, Ifugao, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Nueva Vizcaya, and Quirino.
Rainfall amounts were expected to be heavy to intense at 15 to 25 millimeters throughout the 400 kilometer diameter of the storm.
Dindo was expected to be 330 kilometers west northwest of Basco, Batanes by Friday afternoon, Pagasa said.
