MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Director General Nicanor Bartolome, ordered the suspension of gun-carrying privileges in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Thursday in view of the scheduled registration of voters in the region’s provinces, the Police Regional Office in ARMM said Thursday.

In a document posted on its Facebook account, Bartolome signed the 23-day suspension of all Permits to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence in the whole of ARMM, including Cotabato City and Isabela City, from July 1 to 23.

The registration will be held on July 9 to 18, the PNP said.

“Only the members of PNP, AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) and other law enforcement agencies that are performing official duties and in agency-prescribed uniforms will be allowed to carry firearms,” the document said. Jamie Marie Elona
