MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon – Dawn broke over the Bukidnon Capitol Grounds as the “Pamukalag Ha Pangampo” ritual formally opened the Kaamulan Festival 2026 on Thursday.

The festival gathers the province’s seven ethnolinguistic groups in a show of unity and tradition.

The early morning rite marked the start of the monthlong celebration, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Bukidnon Gov. Rogelio Neil Roque and other officials.

Local leaders emphasized the need to preserve cultural heritage while strengthening tourism in the province.

Roque assured both local and foreign visitors that preparations are in place for the festivities. 

“We welcome everyone to enjoy Kaamulan,” he said, expressing confidence that guests will experience Bukidnon’s culture and hospitality.

The March 19 opening set the tone for this year’s festival, blending sacred tradition with a growing tourism event that continues to draw audiences nationwide and abroad. 

Held annually in Malaybalay City, the Kaamulan Festival celebrates the traditions of Bukidnon’s seven indigenous tribes—Higaonon, Umayamnon, Bukidnon, Talaandig, Manobo, Matigsalog, and Tigwahanon—through street dancing, rituals, music, and cultural showcases. /jpv
