21 injured in Quezon bus accident

MANILA, Philippines—Twenty-one passengers were injured following a road accident Wednesday in Sariaya, Quezon, police said Thursday.

A JAC Liner passenger bus (TXY-4690), driven Arnel Ramos Alcantara, was travelling along Maharlika Highway from Lucena City to Metro Manila when it overtook a pedicab in Barangay (village) Sto. Cristo in Sariaya at around 2:45 p.m., said Police Officer 2 Roderick Lagrazon of Sariaya police.

However, due to heavy rains and the slippery condition of the road, the bus, which was carrying about 30 passengers, wiggled and the driver lost control of the wheel, Lagrazo said.

“[The bus] tumbled on the shoulder of the highway,” he said.

Lagrazo said the victims suffered physical injuries and were brought to Greg Hospital in Sariaya, Quezon for immediate medical treatment, while Alcantara, who was unharmed, was taken into police custody.
