Palace unfazed by survey results, touts gov’t programs

MANILA, Philippines — Palace press officer Undersecretary Claire Castro on Tuesday encouraged the public to open their eyes and ears to the government’s programs, following the release of a survey showing that nearly half of Filipinos expressed disapproval of and distrust in the performance of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

In a Viber message to reporters, she said Marcos’ work will continue whatever the survey numbers show—a remark she has consistently made whenever fluctuating poll results on the President’s performance are released.

“Alam natin lahat kung ano ba ang totoo  at kung sino ang  totoong nagseserbisyo. Si Pangulong Marcos, Jr. ay mananatiling nakikinig  sa daing at pangangailangan ng ating kababayan,” Castro said.

(We all know what the truth is and who is truly serving the people. President Marcos Jr. will continue to listen to the cries and needs of our fellow citizens.)

“Ibukas na lang natin ang ating mga mata at teynga sa mga tunay na programa ng gobyerno,” she added.

(Let us just open our eyes and ears to the real programs of the government.)

According to Pulse Asia Research’s 1st Quarter Ulat ng Bayan survey released on Monday, Marcos received a 45 percent disapproval rating, compared with a 36 percent approval rating, while 18 percent of respondents were undecided.

Meanwhile, 44 percent of Filipinos said they distrust Marcos, while 35 percent expressed trust and 21 percent were undecided.

Vice President Sara Duterte, on the other hand, enjoyed an approval rating of 55 percent, while 27 percent disapproved and 18 percent were undecided.

Duterte posted a 54 percent trust rating, with 26 percent expressing distrust and 20 percent undecided. /gsg
