Three men were killed in two accidents which occurred within an hour of each other before dawn Wednesday in Quezon City.
Based on a traffic report, the conductor of a Cher bus was killed while 13 passengers were injured when the vehicle rammed the railings of the flyover at the corner of Quezon Avenue on the southbound lane of Edsa around 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Due to the impact, the bus fell onto its side and landed on the conductor, Syriel Gupa, 38, who was thrown out of the door after the vehicle hit the flyover railings. He died on the spot as a result.
Thirteen of the passengers suffered cuts and bruises and were taken to a nearby hospital.
The passenger bus (TWU 291) was bound for Makati City at the time of the accident, according to Quezon City traffic investigator Lerma Villadolid.
The bus driver who was identified by the police as Anastacio Pulan, 60, told investigators that he lost control of the vehicle after he tried to avoid another bus.
Pulan was taken into custody by policemen who will file charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, serious physical injury and damage to property against him.
An hour after the accident on Edsa, a car smashed into the wall of a bank’s parking area on Quezon Avenue, killing the driver and his passenger.
Senior Police Officer 2 Jon Cuaresma of Quezon City traffic sector 1 identified the driver of the Honda Civic (TER 520) as Michael Angelo Sy.
His companion, who has yet to be identified, was described by the police as between 25 and 30 years old, at least 5’6” in height, with fair complexion and of medium build. He was dressed in a white shirt and denim jeans.
Cuaresma said that based on the statements of witnesses, the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle after he avoided a speeding motorcycle.
The car swerved to the right side of the road and flipped over several times before it hit the wall of the Bank of the Philippine Island’s parking area around 3 a.m.
