WFH scheme for Senate workers pushed

MANILA, Philippines — Employees in the Senate may work from home (WFH) as part of the chamber’s initiative to conserve energy, and help reduce power and fuel costs.

A 4-day workweek has been place in the Senate even before the war erupted in the region on February 28. 

This time though, there was a suggestion from Senate Secretary Mark Llandro Mendoza  to allow their employees to work  from home,  according to Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.

“He suggested that we allow all Senate employees who can work from home to do so, especially those whose presence isn’t necessary there,” Sotto said at Wednesday’s Kapihan sa Manila Bay.

“What I mean is I accept that suggestion because for me, we’ll take anything that helps. Even a little can help. It’s big thing for us. So work from home, it can work,” he said.

But Sotto, in a Viber message, clarified that it remains a proposal which he hopes they approve soon in the upper chamber.

“Our target is, if we can have 30 percent working from home, that would be a big help for us—saving on energy, electricity, and fuel,” he added. /mr
