TWO OF THE country’s up and coming boxing prospects Vergilio “Maton” Silvano of Dalaguete, Cebu and Charlie “Steelbar” Cabilla of Bukidnon clash for the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) light flyweight championship in the main event of the “Fight Fury” boxing series on July 29 at the J Center Mall convention hall in AS Fortuna Street in Mandaue City.
The 22-year-old Silvano (11-2, 6KOs), the country’s No. 1 contender in his division, will try to extend his 10-fight winning streak against an experienced journeyman from Bukidnon. Cabilla (12-10, 2KOs) is the current No. 10 contender in the same division.
If Silvano wins this bout, he will challenge Jerson “Smooth Operator” Mansio (15-6, 3KOs) for the Philippine Games and Amusements Board (PGAB) light flyweight title.
Silvano recently won impressively against Jonathan Ricablanca last May 11 via a sixth-round stoppage in San Isidro, Leyte.
The fight is being put up by Omega Pro-Naris Singwangcha Promotions.
Naris Singwangcha is a Thai boxing promoter and patron who has been managing and supporting Filipino boxers for the past years. This will be his first promotion in Cebu.
“We are planning to make this a quarterly event [because] we want to showcase quality boxing fights to Cebuano boxing fans,” said Michael Arquillano of Omega Pro-Naris Singwangcha Promotions.
Another bout in the event includes the fight between Silvano’s stable mate and Philippine No. 7 flyweight contender Jason Canoy (14-3, 9 KOs) against Ryan Bongcawil (5-3, 2 KOs) of Kaamino Stable in Bukidnon.
The undefeated Jack “Golden Boy” Tepora (3-0, 3KOs) of the Omega Boxing Gym will also fight Philippine Australian Boxing Club’s JR Salvador in the undercard.
The rest of the bouts pit Jordan Catubay vs. Anthony Galigao, Jhaleel Payao vs. Rommel Bangirigo and Charlie Pucdol vs. Jerome Casas.
Tickets are pegged at P100 for general admission and P200 for VIP seats.
