DoH bans gathering, eating of shellfish from Masinloc Bay in Zambales
MANILA, Philippines—Health officials warned the public, on Tuesday, against harvesting and eating shellfish from Masinloc Bay in Zambales, which has been found positive for toxic red tide.
The Department of Health has also announced that all types of shellfish and alamang (shrimp fry) gathered from Sorsogon Bay in Sorsogon are now safe for human consumption.
But the red tide ban on the gathering, selling and eating of shellfish in the waters of Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur, Murcielagos Bay in Zamboanga del Norte and Misamis Occidental, Bolinao and Anda in Pangasinan remains, according to the DoH.
But the DoH says people could still eat shrimps, fish, crabs and squids in the area provided that they are fresh and washed thoroughly and internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed before cooking.
