Easterlies, amihan prevail on Wednesday (March 4)

MANILA, Philippines — The easterlies are prevailing over most parts of the country on Wednesday while the northeast monsoon, or amihan, continues to affect the extreme northern part of Luzon, the state weather bureau said.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the easterlies will bring warm and humid weather with chances of isolated thunderstorms in several parts of the Philippines.
“These easterlies generally carry more moisture, which is why they are also bringing rains to some parts of the country,” Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin De la Cruz-Galicia explained in the agency’s latest bulletin.
Due to the direct effect of the easterlies, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected over Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, as well as most parts of the Visayas and Mindanao, may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated or localized thunderstorms, especially from afternoon until evening.
Meanwhile, the amihan continues to affect extreme Northern Luzon, bringing isolated light rains over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.
No gale warning has been raised over any of the country’s seaboards, although residents in the extreme portion of northern Luzon are advised to remain cautious due to potentially rough seas caused by the amihan.
Pagasa is not monitoring any low-pressure area for tropical cyclone formation within the Philippine area of responsibility over the next two to three days. /apl
