MANILA, Philippines — The next total lunar eclipse will be visible in the country on December 31, 2028 to January 1, 2029, the state weather bureau said on Friday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) earlier announced that the total lunar eclipse on March 3, 2026 will be visible in Manila and other parts of the country from 7:04 p.m. to 8:03 p.m.
The last time this phenomenon was observed was on September 7 to 8, 2025.

In an online press conference, Pagasa senior weather specialist Mario Raymundo said the next blood moon will be longer than expected this Tuesday.
The duration of the totality of the next blood moon event is one hour, 12 minutes, and 12 seconds, longer than March 3’s 59 minutes and 24 seconds.
“Maganda po ang magiging New Year ng 2029 sapagkat mayroon pong tinatawag na total lunar eclipse,” Raymundo said.

Raymundo added that the blood moon event can be seen over Asia, including the Philippines, Europe, Australia, Africa, North/West North America, the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Indian Ocean, and the Arctic Ocean.

Other celestial wonders
Aside from this, Raymundo said that the following events can be observed this year: rare six-planet parade on February 28, full blue moon on May 31, and supermoon on December 24.
Meanwhile, Raymundo debunked claims of a “rare and beautiful celestial smile” sighting on February 27, where Venus and Jupiter will hover a crescent moon.
“Papunta kasi tayo sa full moon ng Tuesday, kaya paano mangyayari na ito ay crescent at ang location ng Jupiter, kung nasa taas, at ang Venus ay nasa western horizon. Ito ay fake news,” Raymundo explained.
