Woman shot dead in Tondo

MANILA, Philippines—A woman was killed before noon Tuesday and her 4-year-old son was wounded when a man repeatedly shot her near their home in Manila.
Initial reports from the Manila Police District homicide section revealed that Gina Castillo of La Suerte Street in Del Pan, Tondo, had just fetched her son from the barangay day care center at 11:30 a.m. when a man they crossed paths with near their home suddenly drew a handgun.
The unidentified assailant, according to investigators, started firing at the hapless woman, hitting her in different parts of the body. One of the bullets hit her son in the hand.
According to witnesses, as soon as the victim fell dead the gunman casually walked away. Bystanders rushed the wounded boy to the Mary Johnston Hospital.
