MANILA, Philippines — Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla denied using a sports utility vehicle (SUV) with plate number 6 along Ayala Avenue in Makati City.

The claim came from a social media page, alleging Remulla was aboard a black Mercedes-Benz which supposedly used a siren (wangwang) to quickly cut through traffic. The post amassed at least 11,000 reactions, 2,300 comments and 500 shares as of this writing.

However, in a press briefing in Quezon City on Tuesday, Remulla stressed, “Promise to God, I don’t have a black Mercedes car, so that’s fake.”

“My car is a Sequoia and an Escalade. Those are the only ones registered. But, a black Benz? I don’t have one. That’s fake,” he maintained, speaking in Filipino.

Remulla, however, admitted to sparingly using a siren for official travel.

“It is sometimes necessary. There are duties when we are rushing, but that is few and far in between,” he explained. /jpv
