MANILA, Philippines — Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Tuesday denied a quote circulating online in which he allegedly told the public to “move on” from the flood control scandal.

“100 percent fake news. I never said anything like that,” he said in Filipino.

“In fact, we are already reading the arrest of the suspects as named, as alleged by [Public Works and Highways] Usec. [Roberto] Usec. Bernardo. The second that warrant comes out, we will arrest them all,” he added.

The photo circulating online showed Remulla allegedly telling the public to focus on cigarette smuggling instead, citing its adverse effects on public health.

“It’s nonsense. Many got mad at me for that, but I never said it,” he said in Filipino.

“This is the age of disinformation. So, if you didn’t hear it from my mouth, that’s fake news. I only talk to you, the press, so that is fake news,” he added.

Remulla recently led the inspection of at least five allegedly undocumented cigarette factories in Pampanga and Cavite as part of the government’s anti-illegal tobacco manufacturing and smuggling drive. /mcm
