A TRAVELLING exhibit titled, “Hidden Treasures: An exhibit of Spanish-era Philippine churches” opened at the St. James the Apostle Parish convent in Badian town, southwest Cebu since last June 17.

It will stay in the town until July 1 before it will move to Moalboal.

Initiated by the Ortigas Foundation, the exhibit’s run in the parishes of Cebu is hosted by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) Culture and Heritage in partnership with the Archdiocese of Cebu.

Jocelyn Gerra, executive director of RAFI Culture and Heritage, said the public’s response to the exhibit has been overwhelming.

“Badian and Moalboal were not originally part of the exhibit’s itinerary but were included recently due to the support that the priests have shown,” she said.

“While the emergence of heritage-oriented activities and organizations in Cebu in recent years is exciting, it’s only part of the formula to make heritage conservation sustainable. The big challenge is to engage communities who are, and should be, the main beneficiaries of heritage work,” said Florencio Moreño II, curator of Casa Gorordo Museum.

“This travelling exhibit is RAFI’s way of reaching out to the people, educating them about the significance of these old churches. Once they understand this, they will see why saving them (old churches) matters,” he added.

For more information about the traveling exhibit, call Florencio Moreño II at 418-7234 local 703 or visit www.rafi.org.ph or www.facebook.com/rafi.org.ph.
