Norsu marks 8th Charter Day
THE only state university in Negros Oriental held its 8th charter day celebration yesterday.
The celebration marked the conversion of then Central Visayas Polytechnic College into Negros Oriental State University (Norsu), said Norsu information officer Joy Perez.
Activities included a Thanksgiving Mass, all-university academic convocation, lunch fellowship for faculty, staff, administration and guests and an entertainment program, which included raffle draws and talent presentations by the stafff from the Norsu main campus in Dumaguete City and satellite campuses in Guihulngan, Bayawan-Sta. Catalina, Mabinay, Bais City and Pamplona.
RAFI Micro-finance holds recognition
THE Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) Micro-finance Minglanilla recognized its clients and inducted officers of Client Advisory Board (CAB) last May 25 at the Badminton Covered Court in Naga City, southern Cebu.
Around 200 active clients were given certificates and tokens of appreciation. The ten-year loyalty awards were given to 97 clients, and 5-year loyalty awards to 138 clients.
The activity included a raffle draw to raise funds for the community outreach activities of CAB Minglanilla.
CAB Minglanilla, under the leadership of Cecilia Cañalita, aims to conduct different skills trainings this year such as food processing, sack making and other alternative livelihood.
The RAFI Micro-finance Leyte branch also awarded Zenaida Nuñez as most outstanding client during its second general assembly last June 16 at the Visayas State University gymnasium in Baybay, Leyte. Nuñez received P15,000 and a certificate.
Other awards were best chairwoman, best center meeting place, best group and best banner.
More than 300 women micro-entrepreneurs from Baybay, Bato and Ormoc were taught to raise hogs by animal science experts Joel Piedraverde and Raymond Bisas.
Around 200 women and their children also availed of free consultations and screenings from volunteer doctors and medical practitioners from Leyte and Cebu, with the assistance of Eduardo J. Aboitiz Cancer Center. They also received sample vitamins and initial medications.

SM CONSOLACION TO LAUNCH TRASH TO CASH
SM Supermalls’ Trash to Cash Recycling Market Day starts on July 6 and 7 at the newly-opened SM City Consolacion.
SM Trash to Cash Recycling Market is a part of an environmental campaign under the SM Cares program. It is held simultaneously in over 40 SM Malls parking lots from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every first Friday and Saturday of the month.
The program allows families to come in with trash like scrap paper and cardboard, empty ink toner cartridges, plastic bottles and scraps, used lead batteries from cars, aluminum, tin cans, and many other items, in exchange for cash.
