Alabang beats Cebu, forces rubbermatch

/ 06:51 AM June 26, 2012

THE ALABANG Tigers foiled the finals berth campaign of the Cebu Dolphins as they emerged victorious, 9-6, in the semifinals of the Baseball Philippines Series 9 last Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

The win forced a rubbermatch for a slot in the championship round, duplicating the feat of the Manila Sharks against the Dumaguete Uni-Bikers in the other semifinal pairing.

Alabang’s Tino Ubungen and Matt Laurel hit back-to-back homers in the first inning while Carlos Munoz frustrated the Dolphins on the mound as the fourth-seeded Tigers stayed in the hunt for a crown.

The pair of sudden deaths will be played Sunday with Cebu and Alabang facing off at 9 a.m. and Dumaguete and Manila colliding at 1 p.m., also at Rizal Memorial baseball field. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
