Policemen foiled on Monday morning the kidnapping of a wealthy contractor after they cornered the abductors in an Antipolo subdivision in Rizal province, a police official said.
Senior Superintendent Rolando Anduyan, Rizal police director, said Antonio Julian Botor, had just left his house at Maia Alta Subdivision for an early morning meeting in Quezon City when six armed men on a white Mitsubishi Adventure (DPK 758) blocked his vehicle around 6:30 a.m.
An initial investigation said the men forced the victim into their vehicle and tied his driver to the steering wheel to keep him from calling the police for help.
“But Michael Talispara, the victim’s bodyguard, chased the kidnappers and tried to shoot it out with them,” Anduyan said.
Talispara was wounded in his left leg during the exchange of gunfire.
Responding policemen caught up with the suspects shortly in Sitio Oreta, Barangay San Isidro, where they left their victim unscathed.
Police recovered two long firearms with an M203 grenade launcher from the vehicle the kidnappers had used.
Anduyan said the Rizal police has launched a manhunt for the suspects.
