The Katipunan was founded 119 years ago on this day, July 7. The Kataastaasan, Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan was founded in a house on Azcarraga Street (now Claro M. Recto), in Tondo, Manila, in 1892. Membership in the secret society, which sought the separation of the Philippines from Spain and the expulsion of Spaniards from the country, was through a blood compact.— Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
