Andrins win in familiar territory

THE ANDRIN siblings made the streets of Lapu-Lapu City their own playground as they logged victories in the Run For Humanity yesterday.

Jhean Andrin won the women’s 15-kilometer race while younger sisters Lovely Fe and Cherry finished at the top two in the 5k category. Another Andrin, Joel, won the men’s 3k crown.  The Andrins are based in Lapu-Lapu City.

Jhean of Pajo National High School dominated the women’s 15k race with a time of 1 hour, 11 minutes and 38 seconds.

Kenyan Douglas Mwiti breezed through the finish line with a time of 53 minutes and 23 seconds to rule the men’s race.

Lovely Fe also made an impact as she topped the 5k category with a time of 21 minutes and six seconds. The Andrin’s youngest sibling, Cherry, finished second with a time of 21 minutes and nine seconds. Joel topped the men’s 3k with a time of 11:18.

Meanwhile, Ronnie Andrin, the siblings’ father, placed second in the men’s 5k race with a time of 17 minutes and 19 seconds.

A total of 1,100 runners joined the running event of the Philippine Red Cross Lapu-Lapu/Cordova Chapter. The race aimed at generating funds for the group’s funding for its volunteers’ training and tools for disaster preparedness.

In the men’s 5k, University of Southern Philippine-Foundation’s (USP-F) Joel Delposo emerged on top with a time of 17 minutes and 11 seconds.

Kesha Mae Delechos topped the women’s 3k division with a time of 14:20.

According to Vic Jay Gonzal, the PRC-Lapu-lapu/Cordova administrator, the group plans to stage a second leg on Nov. 11. They are also planning to extending the route to 21 kilometers along with the usual 3k, 6k and 12k categories. A 500-meter dash and 1k distance is also being planned.  /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
