Ex-watchman slain

A former head of village watchmen in Lucena City was shot dead Saturday, police said.

Senior Police Officer 2 Ferlito Mangubat, case investigator, said Adolfo Magugat, driver, was parking his truck near his house in  Barangay Cotta at around 8:15 p.m. when four suspects aboard two motorcycles blocked his path.

One of the suspects shot Magugat several times at close range using a .45 cal. pistol hitting him in different parts of the body.

Another suspect shot truck helper Christian Santa Maria, hitting his left leg. Santa Maria and his cohelper managed to  escape, Mangubat said.

DAVAO DEL SUR

3 rebels slain

Three New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed in a clash with government soldiers in Jose Abad Santos town on Saturday.

Lt. Col. Adolfo Espuelas, chief of the 73rd Infantry Battalion, said the slain rebels—identified only as Marvin, Bobong and Berting—were members of the NPA operating in the boundary of Sarangani and Davao Del Sur.

DAGUPAN CITY

P. Zambrano; 92

Pilar Borja Zambrano, mother of Pangasinan photo correspondent Ray Zambrano, died on June 22 after a lingering illness in Chicago, Illinois. She was 92.

Zambrano and her late husband, Antolin Zambrano, were originally from Villasis, Pangasinan. They settled in Dagupan City in 1970. They migrated to the United States with their children, except Ray, in the 1980s.
