Better two than one?

Two photos that fit better together than they do apart are called the diptych. For example, a mini story in two frames, an association, siblings, parent and child, different perspectives on the same theme, or anything that works well as a team of two are more interesting to view than just one photo. It raises our creativity to think in pairs.

So two is better than one?

The benefits of transplanting two IVF embryos into a woman over the age of 40 may outweigh the risks, say UK researchers.  A prospective study found that the live birth rate was greater when two embryos versus one were transferred, even if this may increase the chance of multiple births and low birth weight.

Two is better than one?

Having two cats is said to be more beneficial than just having one. Though I don’t really like cats, this idea applies to pet dogs (now this I like!). Two cats or dogs provide each other with exercise, social interaction and mental stimulation. Two pets well matched and with enough physical space to live together are less likely to be destructive or engage in other problematic behaviors. This is why I badly want my Labrador/Dalmatian to get pregnant. I’m not keen on keeping a big litter, but just to have one pup  to be her companion so she won’t have to keep  demanding  my attention.

Two can be better than one.

Imagine if we had only one ear or one eye; or just one leg or one arm. Sure, we can still live and move about, but we function better because we have these pair of body parts. Isn’t God so wise to create pairs of what are vital to our bodies? Two lung lobes, two kidneys, two testes for the male and two ovaries for  the female, and it only takes two eggs from the male and female to fertilize and a fetus is formed.

Rewind to the day that God created the world. There was day and night, not only one. He made living creatures in pairs. When God sent a great flood to cleanse the evil on earth, He saved Noah and his family  plus a pair of each animal.

Not to be controversial but I really believe that man is made for woman and vice versa. That’s why the sacrament of matrimony was instituted. Adam did not live alone. God empathized with his loneliness and created Eve.

The book of Ecclesiastes says –“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm…”

God did not put a couple together to be miserable. He didn’t put you together to fight, pick on each other or try and change each other. The Bible says that a woman is to enjoy her husband. (1 Peter 3:2)  God wants us to enjoy each other; to have fun together. You need to laugh and have fun together and agree to disagree.

How do people who are not of one mind learn to agree?  When they stop being selfish. Selfishness is, “I want what I want when I want it, and I don’t really care what you want because I want what I want.”

If a couple will only learn to voice what they want, but choose what best serves everybody in the family, then there’s peace. The key is to care about what the other person needs, be willing to humble ourselves, and do what we can to meet those needs.

Ooops! So what happens to widowers and widows like me? Two is still better than one? (lol)

Iif God’s will is to give me another shot at marriage, then why not? However, if this does not happen, no big deal. I will not be living alone.  God is my eternal spouse as written in Isaiah 54:5 – “For your Maker is your husband–the LORD Almighty is his name.”

That’s a BIG TWO that can wipe any pangs of loneliness and self-pity in one who is living alone. It’s really better. With God as my partner, He will not fight me, debate with me, scorn me or even abandon me. As the most patient lover of my soul,  He’s on call for me, 24-7. No  unanswered SMS or  busy tone on the phone when I need Him.

When no one is there to listen to me, He’s my default. When there’s no one to hear my sighs and cries, He’s just there.

Though I admit it is beautiful to have a warm body to cuddle with, there’s even  greater bliss when I think of the good things He has done for  me. Despite my weaknesses and sins, how can He still be good to me? And just thinking about this great love is my warm embrace.

So, is two BETTER than one? Definitely. But it is BEST when two things move or function, not the way man wants these to be but by the way God created them to be.

A greater power even takes place when two people agree for something in line with God’s will for them.
