One of four men who tried to rob passengers of a public utility jeepney bound for Lagro in Quezon City on Friday night was shot and wounded by one of the passengers who turned out to be an air force sergeant, a police report said.
Senior Supt. Norberto Babagay, commander of the Quezon City Police District Station 11, identified the military man as Sgt. Dennis del Rosario, 38, of the Philippine Air Force.
However, Del Rosario was also hurt in the incident and sustained a stab wound in the neck and another in the chest when he fought off the robbers. He was brought to the nearest hospital.
Babagay said Del Rosario was with his wife Riza and two other passengers when the robbers declared a holdup while the jeep was cruising along Quezon Avenue near the corner of Araneta Avenue at around 11 p.m. on Friday.
The robbers then ordered them to yield their valuables.
But Del Rosario fought off the robbers inside the vehicle.
One of the suspects stabbed the military man when he saw him reaching for his firearm, the police official said.
But despite the stab wounds, Del Rosario managed to shoot one of the robbers before they jumped off the vehicle and disappeared into the side streets.
