Paraguay swears in new president

ASUNCION — A new president was sworn in late Friday in Paraguay shortly after fallen leader Fernando Lugo was impeached.

Federico Franco, who had been Lugo’s vice president, took over as the new president to cheers from lawmakers just over an hour after they had overwhelmingly voted to impeach Lugo, an Agence France-Presse correspondent witnessed.
