MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday administered the oath of office to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.

The ceremony was held at Malacañan Palace, according to Palace press officer Claire Castro.

This means that Nartatez was officially promoted to a full-fledged top cop with the four-star rank of police general.

He replaced then-PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III in an acting capacity last Aug. 26, following the latter’s removal from his position over a dispute with the National Police Commission due to the reassignment of several senior PNP officials.
