MANILA, Philippines—A large trove of documents retrieved from the felled New People’s Army (NPA) encampment in Capiz last Monday are set to undergo analysis by the military for any valuable information that could “save more lives in the future.”
Experts from the 3rd infantry division (3rd ID) will examine and scrutinize the printed and electronic documents described as “of high intelligence value,” Major Enrico Ileto of the 3rd infantry division said in a statement.
“These documents are equally important with the other items recovered. The analysis of the documents will definitely save more lives in the future as it [will] provide more information for the conduct of upcoming operations by your soldiers here,” said 3rd ID commander Major General Jose Z. Mabanta Jr.
Soldiers seized the NPA encampment in the vicinity of Barangay Buri, Tapaz, Capiz after an encounter with an undetermined number of rebels at 9:35 in the morning Monday.
The communist guerrillas were training members in bomb making and landmine manufacturing at the camp when the soldiers stormed them, Ileto said in an earlier statement.
Also recovered from the encampment were a laptop computer, a printer, a generator set, six improvised explosive devices used as landmines, around 600 meters of electrical wires, detonating devices, and 17 backpacks with personal belongings.
Numerous ammunition, grenades, and firearms were also recovered in the camp, Ileto said.
It was 25th NPA camp seized by military this year, four were major encampments while the rest were “satellite camps,” he said.
