NAGA CITY, Philippines—Five people were killed while two others were seriously injured when a train slammed into a tricycle in Iriga City Friday morning, police said.
Senior Police Officer 3 Rey Malapo said the tricycle, with five high school students and a teacher on board, was on its way to the Ceferino Arroyo National High School in Barangay San Agustin when it was hit by a train in Barangay San Isidro at 7:05 a.m.
Malapo could not say immediately where the train came from or where it was headed.
The driver and two of the students died on the spot while the teacher and another student died while undergoing treatment at the Rinconada Medical Center and Lourdes Hospital. Two other students were undergoing treatment.
The identities of all victims were not immediately available, Malapo said.
